Meet our mural:
GUARDIANS OF THE FLAME

A mural of a woman, dragon, and colorful phoenix

11.30.23

You can see it from blocks away, a beautiful burst of color in the distance, peeking out from above the tree tops. First, you see a woman dressed in her bright yellow Korean hanbok. As you near the alley adjacent to Kim's, a playful dragon greets you, and peering down the alley toward Bront Bar, a colorful phoenix emerges. Once you stand back to take it all in, you cannot help but feel moved by the striking beauty of this massive, extraordinary work of art.

"Guardians of the Flame" was designed by Washington, DC-based artist Julia Chon (@kimchi.juice), and thanks to a generous grant from the Lake Street Council, we were able to make our dream a reality. We're delighted to have created this vibrant new piece of public art for the Uptown neighborhood; it's a gift for everyone: residents and visitors alike. Pictures don't do it justice, so the next time you're in Uptown, stop by to see it and experience it in real life.
